Doug Minnis - Keep up support of Davis schools
".... Our outstanding schools are a major part of making Davis the community it is. I want to live in a community where education is valued and expected to be outstanding. Davis children receive the fine education every child in the nation should have...."
I strongly support Proposition W. This results from nearly 50 years of favorable experience with the district as a parent, grandparent and professional educator. Six family members graduated from Davis High School. Each had a different set of needs. The schools satisfactorily accommodated each.
When I joined the Department of Education in the summer of 1959 I had not been in town for a week before I received offers for help from both teachers and administrators. This has typified the cooperation the school district has provided for the preparation of new teachers over five decades. Many teachers in the Davis public schools have been fine mentors for new teachers.
In the fall of 1959, I was invited to meet with a group of parents and teachers to explore ways parents could work to help the schools. Over the years, Davis parents have been active in consistently supporting the instructional program of schools. Teachers, administrators and parents have very reason to be proud of the district's success in teaching our children. The district's reputation is a strong invitation for parents to move to Davis.
Class reunions for DHS bring my children and grandchildren back to Davis, and through observation and family reporting I have seen what successful adults their classmates have become.
Educating family members and preparing teachers are no longer part of my stake in the Davis schools. Our outstanding schools are a major part of making Davis the community it is. I want to live in a community where education is valued and expected to be outstanding. Davis children receive the fine education every child in the nation should have.
It is most pleasing to hear the sound of so many young children in my neighborhood and realize that they can have an outstanding education if we continue our long tradition of supporting our school Please vote yes on W.
