Evangela Harrison - Fairness and equity

".... Owners of apartments and multi-family dwellings are assessed a much lower rate of $50 per unit. Even if that full rate is passed along to me in my rent, my cost will be only $4.17 a month. As a parent and teacher, I can't think of a better investment for my $5 bill...."

Many of us with children in Davis schools don’t own our own homes, but we know the value of voting Yes on Measure W.

For many years, my daughter and I lived in an apartment in West Davis while she attended Patwin, Emerson and Davis High.  She’s now a student at UC Irvine and her success is due in part to the many wonderful programs and teachers she experienced in Davis schools. I now rent a home in East Davis with my husband and our three younger daughters, and these same programs and teachers are important to their futures.

Under Measure W, homeowners will pay $120 annually.  Owners of apartments and multi-family dwellings are assessed a much lower rate of $50 per unit.  Even if that full rate is passed along to me in my rent, my cost will be only $4.17 a month.  As a parent and teacher, I can't think of a better investment for my $5 bill.

When you think about fairness and equity, think about this: measure W funds programs that will benefit all Davis students, regardless of their individual resources.

Please join me in voting Yes on W.
