Kaitlin Coppinger - Community support makes Davis schools unique

".... Graduating from Davis High last year, I have first hand knowledge of what community support does for our schools...."

What makes Davis unique?  We do.  What makes Davis schools unique?  Community support.  Graduating from Davis High last year, I have first hand knowledge of what community support does for our schools.  From Patwin to Emerson through Davis High, the types of programs that will be cut if Measure W fails have been my most enriching educational experiences.  Elementary science from a teacher who worked on a NASA Mars mission; a fifth grade musical production of Westward bound; band from a junior high teacher that opened my imagination; and a choral experience that often left audiences in disbelief that the Madrigals weren't a professional choir – these are the opportunities we, as a community, stand to lose if Measure W fails.

As a freshman at UCD, I know the value of our schools and as student who didn't participate in sports, I know the importance of an excellent music program.  While I didn't always enjoyed practicing, my involvement in elementary orchestra and junior high band laid the foundation for my success as a Madrigal and gave me the discipline and creativity to succeed in English, math, science, history and French.  The music programs at Davis High School represent a standard of excellence that few other high schools or even some colleges can match.  In fact, I place such a high value on my high school choir experience that I now give back by interning weekly with the Madrigals.  In choir, band and orchestra every voice and instrument counts so please help me support the programs and teachers that make Davis schools unique and vote “YES” on Measure W.  For more information please visit www.yesw.org or check out our Facebook group
